Our stories Magic Blog Rotherfield at Red Rooster 3 April 2019 Children from the School Council at Rotherfield Primary School had a very special breakfast recently thanks to the Red Rooster restaurant at The Curtain Hotel in Shoreditch, East London. Marcus Samuelsson, the famous head chef of Red Rooster in Harlem, New York was in town and he entertained the children with stories about his fascinating life history and career. He encouraged them not only to try a variety of different foods, but also to have the confidence in their ability to achieve their dreams, just as he has been able to do. He even had a few of them strutting on the table top saying, ‘Woah! I can do this’ - encouraging positive thinking whenever anything seemed a little difficult. The children were taught all about taste and seasoning food and they enjoyed a very hands-on cooking demonstration. The School Council at Rotherfield are going to help with planning and implementing an extended reach, universal offer of bagels in their playground. A universal offer ensures that all potentially hungry children can access food without barrier or stigma in the morning. This event at Red Rooster helped to build cohesion in the Council and raise awareness of the importance of a healthy breakfast - as well as being a real treat. The children were a credit to their school: well-behaved, polite and enthusiastic. They clearly appreciated the delicious range of food provided for their breakfast and their tour of the luxurious Curtain Hotel. Manage Cookie Preferences
