Earlier this year we sent out our annual ‘Measuring and Monitoring’ (M&M) survey to our partner schools throughout England and Scotland. This survey sheds light on the impact of our breakfast provision within schools and how partner schools are being affected by ongoing changes to their community. The insights we garner allow us to not only better understand the schools we work with and the challenges they face, but also to tailor our approach in response to their specific needs. Morning registration has become the highlight of many class days! The pupils love walking into the school building every morning, smelling the freshly toasted bagels, and knowing that staff are ready and waiting to provide the nourishment they need. Pupils are content. They feel safe and this is reflected in the positive behaviour displayed in the classrooms. We are thrilled with the impact that Magic Breakfast has had on our school environment.”

Key findings:
75%
of Magic Breakfast partner schools surveyed believe child poverty has increased in their school community in the past year.
Over two-fifths
of respondent schools cited they had increased demand for food aid with many schools providing food vouchers, food bank referrals, food parcels, or running food banks at schools.
71%
of schools are seeing the impact on children’s learning due to the cost of living
crisis.
Impacts of school breakfast provision:
Against a difficult background, we continue to hear how our breakfast provision impacts
positively on a range of outcome areas. As well as 94% of our partner schools agreeing that breakfast provision has positively impacted concentration in class, and 92% noticing improvement in a readiness to learn, other impacts have also been observed.
