2nd June, 2016.

We are so grateful to all the generous people who donated money to help give healthy breakfasts to Year 6 pupils at our partner schools taking SATS this May. We were, we are happy to say, able to provide cereal, porridge and bagels to all the schools who had requested extra food for their exam students. This added up to: 671 extra boxes of cereal, 182 extra boxes of porridge and 13,584 extra bagels!

Teachers from our partner schools tell us that pupils who have eaten our nutritious breakfasts are more alert, have increased concentration levels and improved educational attainment. Recent research by Cardiff University found a robust link between children eating a good breakfast and doing well in exams.

So we offered breakfasts to all Year 6 students in all of our partner schools so that they could focus on their SATS rather than hunger. We joined forces with the food writer and broadcaster, Rosie Birkett, for our “Fuel for SATS” campaign not only to raise funds, but also to educate schoolchildren about why breakfast is so important to eat before lessons and exams, and to teach them some healthy breakfast recipes.

Rosie Birkett and chefs from Dishoom, Foxlow and Bone Daddies restaurants in London gave special presentations to local Year 6 pupils from our partner schools St Michael's Primary in Camden, Princess May Primary in Hackney, Mandeville Primary in Hackney and Surrey Square Primary in Southwark. A lively, brain fuelling time was had by all!

Special thanks go to Aspect Capital for match funding donations.
