Magic Breakfast asked schools how breakfast helps children do well at school. Nearly all of them said that it gives children energy, so that they are ready to learn and can listen in class for longer.
When I don’t have breakfast because mornings are too busy, I feel really sleepy in class and lessons feel harder. And I know my little brother shouts a lot more when he’s hungry!
I know when my friends are hungry too – they look grumpy and sometimes they don’t want to play at playtime. And that makes me feel sad.
I don’t always know why they haven’t had breakfast, but maybe they could have it at school like me? That would give them a better start to the day!
Schools also told Magic Breakfast that having breakfast at school helps children’s social skills, mental health and sense of belonging.
I really like going to breakfast club and seeing my friends – I look forward to playing games with them. But sometimes I just like having a quieter start to the day, and chatting to the grown-ups before they get too busy. And the food is really good too!
