Every child and young person in the UK deserves to be nourished, empowered, and able to thrive. Yet many face a quiet crisis each school day, with systemic barriers leaving a significant number of them at risk of hunger.

Starting the morning without food creates compounding disadvantage that affects learning, health, wellbeing, confidence, and social connection. This is not about individual circumstance, but wider pressures that mean millions of children grow up in food-insecure households.

School mornings, however, hold transformative potential. A universal, nourishing, stigma-free breakfast can level the playing field, offering not just food, but a vital space for care, connection, and belonging where children feel seen and valued.

Magic Breakfast exists to turn each morning into a platform for opportunity, ensuring every school day begins with possibility, not inequality, and that every child’s right to be nourished, empowered, and thriving is fulfilled.

WHY we are needed

Millions of children and young people live in poverty within a landscape of policy fragmentation and food insecurity. Schools face intense financial strain and widening attendance and attainment gaps, and families must navigate ‘food deserts’ and competing financial priorities, such as rising energy, housing and childcare costs. Children and young people bear the impact, lacking the essential nutrition and support to thrive.

WHAT we do

We provide nutritious school breakfasts and deliver expert training, ensuring children, young people and communities are our guides for what they want and need.

This experience alongside robust evidence directs our work with decision-makers, multi-sectoral coalitions and a network of supporters to advocate for the policy, systemic and community level solutions.

The DIFFERENCE we will make

A UK with school breakfast provision for all children and young people that is inclusive, enriching, and free from stigma. Our work influences national funding frameworks, driving the government toward a formal commitment to universal school breakfast at every phase of education, and empowering children, young people and communities to be active agents of change.

The IMPACT we will have

For children and young people, this means sustained healthy habits, increased educational engagement, and higher lifetime earning potential.

For families, it means reduced financial strain and improved food security. On a systemic level, this means a reduction in the socio-economic disparities linked to hunger.

In summary…

1. Why we are needed: Poverty, policy fragmentation, food insecurity, financial strain, rising costs and stigma all contribute to child morning hunger.

2. What we do:
In partnership with schools, we provide nutritious school breakfasts, deliver expert training and advocate for long-term change, always guided by children, young people and communities.

3. The difference we will make: Inclusive, enriching and stigma-free school breakfast provision for all UK children and young people, who are the active agents of change.

4. The impact we will have: Improved health, educational and future opportunities for children and young people. Reduced food insecurity for families. Improved socio-economic equity in society.
