Commenting on the Labour Party’s commitment today for fully funded breakfast clubs in every primary school in England, Dr. Lindsey MacDonald of Magic Breakfast said:

“Magic Breakfast welcomes the announcement ‘that a Labour Government will introduce fully funded breakfast clubs for every primary school in England’. Magic Breakfast works with over 1000 primary and secondary schools across England & Scotland offering barrier-free, healthy breakfasts and we see daily the significant impact and benefits this brings to hungry children, communities, and schools. Children who are too hungry to learn are unable to participate and immerse themselves in learning and maximise the opportunities from their education. With the cost-of-living catastrophe drawing so many more children and families into a situation where meeting the daily cost of essentials, like food, heating and housing is an impossibility, a school breakfast is a cost-effective solution to invest in our children’s education and wellbeing. School breakfast is also proven to offer immediate and longer-term benefits to the whole of society. Magic Breakfast supports this policy announcement, and we hope that this provision will be extended to children and young people in secondary education, to support pupils to their GCSEs and beyond.”
