After years of delay, campaigning and calls for change, the Scottish Government has finally committed £3 million in the latest budget, for a new free school breakfast scheme, ‘Bright Start Breakfasts’.
It’s a welcome step, but there’s still a long way to go. We’ve yet to see a clear plan for how and when the new scheme will be delivered. And while we wait, over 300,000 children and young people in Scotland remain at risk of starting their school day too hungry to learn.
At Magic Breakfast, we’ll continue to advocate and campaign for the Scottish Government to fulfil their promise to the children and young people of Scotland and for all parties to commit to better breakfast provision ahead of next year’s parliamentary elections
We need to keep up the pressure to ensure promises turn to action.
Join our Breakfast Can’t Wait campaign to add your voice and help push for lasting change in school breakfast provision across Scotland.
Together, we can ensure every young Scot, no matter their circumstances, has the opportunity to start their day with a healthy breakfast that helps them to learn and thrive.
