The call for universal free school breakfast provision in Scotland is gathering momentum.
Across schools and communities, there is growing recognition that every child, whatever their age, deserves to start the school day with a nourishing breakfast. This sits at the heart of our Breakfast Can’t Wait campaign, which aims to ensure that every pupil begins the morning fed, settled and ready to learn.
We’re delighted to share that this message has been amplified this week through new pieces published by Children in Scotland and the Poverty Alliance. Their latest blogs highlight how universal free school breakfast provision can remove pressure on families in the mornings, support pupils to start the day nourished and focused, and ensure that breakfast is offered without stigma.
This is a crucial moment. The Scottish Budget is just weeks away, political parties are putting together their manifestos, and a national election will be held in May 2026. Decisions made now will shape how young Scots are supported in education for years to come and we need universal free school breakfasts on the agenda.
You can help keep this issue visible by reading and sharing these pieces. And if you have not yet taken part, you can still contact your MSPs to call for a universal free school breakfast provision that reaches children and young people without barriers.
