About Our Trustees Trustee biographies Joanne Thompson Chair of Trustees. Joanne is now a portfolio non-executive; having previously worked in a range of senior leadership roles with both private and public companies. She is currently a UK Crown Representative at the Cabinet Office and a Trustee of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust. During her executive career she was a CEO of Penrillian, a divisional MD of Serco PLC and a board member of BT Europe. Joanne's all-time favourite breakfast stems from time spent at wet and windy Girl Guides' camping trips in the North - cornflakes liberally topped with warm stewed rhubarb…………! Phil Davies Chair of the Governance Committee and Member of the Finance and Operations Committee. Phil was appointed as a Trustee of Magic Breakfast in September 2018. In his professional life, Phil is Global Head of Operations for Morgan Stanley, responsible for all Operations activities supporting the Institutional Securities, Wealth Management and Investment Management businesses, having joined Morgan Stanley in 2010. Phil grew up in Hertfordshire, and has worked in London and New York since graduating from the University of Birmingham with an M.Eng in Civil Engineering with Management. He returned to the UK in 2016 and now lives again in Hertfordshire with his wife, a secondary school teacher, and his two daughters aged 14 and 12. As a child he loved Rice Krispies with milk for breakfast, but now prefers a bowl of porridge with honey and bananas, or granary toast with marmite. Alison Inglis-Jones Trustee and Chair of the Policy and Campaigns Committee. Alison is an experienced trustee with a record of overseeing and running successful public affairs campaigns for the private, public and voluntary sectors. She provides pro bono public affairs advice to a range of local, national and international charities. Alison enjoys porridge with banana for breakfast. Aniela Shuckburgh Trustee and Chair of the Schools' Committee. Aniela has over 20 years experience working in the not-for-profit sector, primarily in education, having held roles at the Harvard Business School, University of Cambridge and City Year UK. Her favourite breakfast is pancakes, bacon and maple syrup and a large cup of coffee! Paula Smith Trustee and Chair of the Finance and Operations Committee. Paula Smith is Partner Capital Markets at KPMG. She was previously Managing Director Finance at Morgan Stanley. Varsha Venugopal Trustee and Member of Schools' and Governance Committees. Varsha Venugopal is an Advisor to international and national charities on strategy and effectiveness. Varsha has more than 15 years' experience of setting up and running development projects and programmes in global institutions including the World Bank and the Open Society Foundation. She is currently setting up a charity in India to improve vaccination uptake. Varsha’s favourite breakfast is steamed rice cake from South India called “idli”. Emma West Trustee and Member of the Finance, Operations and People Committee and the Schools Committee Emma is an experienced HR Director who has worked in senior roles for Cadbury, Unilever and Sainsbury’s. For the last 5 years she has run her own business, combining Talent Management consultancy with coaching. Emma is a Non-Executive Director at the DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) and was previously the Chair of Inspire! (Education Business Partnership in Hackney) and Chair of Governors for Inspired Directions School (alternative provision). She is also a pro bono coach with the Civil Service. Emma's favourite breakfast is her husband’s scrambled eggs on a toasted bagel, with a glass of spicy tomato juice. Michael Honan Trustee and Member of the Governance Committee and Schools Committee Michael is a corporate partner at Linklaters LLP who advises on a wide range of corporate, corporate finance and commercial matters around the world, with a focus on the Infrastructure and Consumer sectors. Nicola Noble Trustee and Member of Fundraising Committee Nicola Noble is Co-Head Teacher of Surrey Square Primary School in Southwark. The school has a clear mission of ‘personal and academic excellence; everyone every day’ and benefits from the support of Magic Breakfast, feeding up to 200 children a day. Nicola balances work life with a busy home life – she has three children aged 8, 6 and 8 months. Her children are sports mad – all their spare time is spent either playing or watching sport! Nicola even coaches her daughter’s rugby team on Sunday mornings!
