Our Director of Policy and Engagement, Jacquie Bance de Vasquez, spoke to Jaega Wise on The Food Programme about the government’s plans for school breakfast, and the impact of breakfast in those schools that are already able to offer it.

In the discussion, Jacquie discussed the work we do to champion and provide nourishing breakfasts in schools across England and Scotland, and the potential of the Department for Education’s free breakfast club offer.

What we’re asking the government for is to extend that breakfast provision to all secondary aged pupils within special schools…It would make such a difference because we know that those children in special schools are the ones who are most vulnerable, the ones who need it most, the ones where you find the biggest disadvantage gap.”

Jacquie Bance de Vasquez, Director of Policy and Engagement

Joining Jacquie in this conversation was Marie Berry, headteacher at a Magic Breakfast partner school, as well as other voices from across the sector.
