About Magic News & Blog A Very Magic Breakfast 18th September, 2018 Children from six different schools enjoyed a very special breakfast at Dishoom restaurants across London and in Edinburgh today. In London the restaurants in Kensington, Kings Cross, Covent Garden, Carnaby Street and Shoreditch, were closed to the public and instead coach loads of excited schoolchildren filled the tables. The children were given a delicious breakfast, fun activities and, best of all, a visit to the kitchen to learn how to make Indian breads. In the Edinburgh branch secondary schoolchildren from Gracemount High School had a great morning picking up some valuable knowledge about the hospitality industry (whilst enjoying their naans!) This month Dishoom are celebrating 5 million meals. This isn’t celebrating meals they’ve served in their UK restaurants but those that they donate through Magic Breakfast and the Akshaya Foundation in India as an act of charity or ‘Zakat’. For every breakfast that is sold at Dishoom the restaurant donates the cost of a Magic Breakfast. Magic Breakfast's founder, Carmel McConnell MBE, said: “What a generous and lovely thing to do, thank you so much! We share the belief with Dishoom that when child hunger is a barrier to education it also becomes a barrier to social mobility. Shockingly half a million children here in the UK start their school day too hungry to learn, and it is only through help from generous partners like Dishoom that we can deliver food to the many schools asking for our support. So sending my thanks again to all at Dishoom who help us make sure children start their school day ready to learn and able to succeed.” The Dishoom restaurant takeover was a very special morning and we are so grateful to all their staff for all the hard work they put in to make it such a success. We are excited to hear they are opening in Manchester soon too! All providing fantastic fuel for learning. So, a big thank you to Dishoom for their continuing support and for making many children very happy this morning.
