22p Breakfast Unlocks Learning A hungry child cannot concentrate. Teachers tell us that the most important lessons are taught in the morning. So a healthy, nutritious breakfast can unlock up to 4 hours of learning for an otherwise hungry child. A recent study by Cardiff University established a positive link between a good breakfast and pupil attainment. Activities we deliver Offering a nutritious breakfast at school to every child in the UK who needs one: We work toward this goal primarily through setting up school breakfast clubs in the most deprived communities delivering nutritious food to them and also practical support to optimise the breakfast provision. Making the case for change: Creating wider public awareness around the issue of child hunger as a barrier to education and influencing policy makers to create lasting societal change. Promoting healthy eating: We provide nutritious breakfast options such as protein rich bagels, low salt/sugar cereals, porridge and fresh fruit juice. In doing so, we help to educate both children and their parents about the importance of eating well. Establishing healthy eating habits early in a child’s life is an excellent anti-obesity measure.
